Olde Sandwich Town is home to some of Ontario's oldest and most historically important buildings, such as Mackenzie Hall, built by Alexander Mackenzie, a local stone-mason and builder who went on to be Canada's second Prime Minister, and the Duff Baby House, considered to be the oldest-surviving structure in all of Ontario. Widely known for its incredible history, Sandwich is at the same time experiencing a revival in business, property and culture. New citizen investment and restoration of historical buildings have sparked up the neighbourhood over the past few years into a lovely place to live, work and visit. West Windsor and Sandwich Town are an eclectic mixture of some of the most beautiful homes in the City, as well as the location of the most significant need for revitalization in the planning and building of homes. There is a marked increase in the number of building vacancies commercially as well as uninhabitable homes compared to the remainder of the City of Windsor. The condition of many commercial and residential buildings in this area is very poor with a number of buildings boarded up, abandoned or displaying evidence of vandalism. Yet, these lands also represent an opportunity for redevelopment that will not only improve the appearance and image of this historical community, it will also provide safe, secure and affordable home ownership opportunities for five local families who are anxious to call Sandwich Town home. West Windsor is reclaiming its place as a beautiful local attraction providing inviting areas to eat, shop and go to school while providing an ambiance steeped in rich and important historical significance. Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is thrilled to be partnering with five local families to build beautiful and affordable homes in West Windsor through 2023 and 2024.

Sam
Sam is a dedicated father who loves his children more than anything in the world. His two kids, an 11-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, both have disabilities that require him to homeschool them full-time. Despite the challenges, Sam is determined to provide his children with the best possible education and a safe, nurturing environment.
Unfortunately, Sam's living situation was far from ideal. He and his children were living in an old, run-down house in a neighborhood that is known for its high crime rate. Worse still, there is a serious mold problem that posed a significant health risk to his children.
Sam, with his supportive extended family, had tried everything he can think of to make the house habitable, but his efforts were in vain. He simply did not have the money or resources to fix all the problems on his own. Despite these challenges, Sam remained determined to provide his children with a safe, comfortable home.
When Sam applied for homeowner partnership with Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex his situation was desperate, you can only imagine how thrilled he was to learn that this program could help him and his children. Together, we will built a new home for his family, one that is safe, comfortable, and suited to their needs.
Sam and his two children look forward to the years ahead. Improved health for both children, security and stability that Sam has craved since the birth of his children. Welcome home, Sam.

Adriana Adriana is a hardworking single mom who had been working at a local non-profit training organization for the past 14 years. She loves her job and is passionate about helping others. Dedicated to her career, Adriana was challenged to provide am affordable permanent home for her two children, a 10-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. They were living in an unsafe neighborhood, where people often wander into their yard, and even worse, needles being thrown into their yard where the children play. It was a constant source of worry and anxiety for Adriana, who just wanted to provide a safe and secure home for her children. |
|
Their rental was overcrowded, and with two healthy active children - the space seemed to shrink every day. Adriana worked hard to make their cramped space a home, but could not manage to find anything more suitable and still remain affordable.
Adriana applied for the Habitat homeownership program, which required her to complete a series of workshops and volunteer hours. She was an essential part of the solution that helped her family finally attain the goal of affordable homeownership and a place to set down roots in our community.
With the help of Habitat volunteers, Adriana and her children have a beautiful new home with enough space for her family - with three bedrooms, a backyard, and a front porch. Adriana was thrilled to finally have a plan in place to provide a stable and secure home for her family.

Ramazzani & Jeannette
Meet one of our newest partner families: a resilient, loving family facing life's challenges with unwavering determination. Ramazzani, Jeannette, and their four vibrant daughters, aged 5 to 10, have endured the hardships of residing in a deteriorating rental unit plagued by mold, on a bustling street where safety is a constant concern. Despite these obstacles, their spirit remains unbroken, and their dreams of a secure home shine bright.
Their journey began in 2020 when they first applied to partner with us at Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. Just as they were making strides, the pandemic struck, and Ramazzani lost his job. Yet, in the face of adversity, they stood strong, managing their finances diligently until Ramazzani found employment once again. Now, with renewed hope and determination, they're ready to resume their pursuit of a stable home for their family. As the family eagerly anticipates the prospect of homeownership, their hearts overflow with the promise of what this new chapter will bring. For their four young daughters, it means more than just a roof over their heads—it means a sanctuary where laughter can echo freely and dreams can take flight. Imagine the joy sparkling in their eyes as they envision the endless possibilities that await within the walls of their future home. Space to play and imagine, to let their creativity soar without constraint. A safer yard where they can play and explore. Weekends spent at the park, making new friends whose laughter will become the soundtrack of their childhood. And for their parents, the burden of worry lifts from their shoulders, replaced by a sense of peace and security. No longer will they watch anxiously from the sidelines as their children navigate the hazards of their current surroundings. Instead, they'll stand beside them, witnessing firsthand as their daughters grow and thrive in a space filled with love, warmth, and endless possibility. For this young family, homeownership is more than just a dream—it's the key to a future where their daughters can flourish, where their laughter can fill every corner of their new home, and where their family can finally lay down roots and grow together, stronger and more resilient than ever before. |

Muhammad & Family
Introducing the inspiring partner family of the 87th Habitat Windsor-Essex home: A family that serves as a testament to the power of dedication, perseverance, and the unwavering pursuit of a brighter future. For over two decades, Muhammad has been a dedicated employee at a communications company. Alongside him, his wife, works part-time at a local school specializing in support for children and youth with disabilities, and brings compassion and care to her role each day.
Despite their unwavering dedication to their professions, the dream of homeownership has remained elusive for this family. The soaring costs of safe and affordable rentals have placed this dream just out of reach, casting a shadow of uncertainty over their future. Yet, amidst these challenges, they've remained undeterred, channeling their efforts into what matters most: the education and well-being of their children. |
With grit and determination, they've navigated the often turbulent waters of academia, ensuring that their children have access to the tools and opportunities needed to thrive. And now, as their son and daughter embark on their post-secondary journeys, the fruits of their labor are beginning to bloom. Their children's futures shine brightly.
But their story is far from complete. Their journey is a testament to the enduring power of education and the resilience of the human spirit.
