Building Innovation:
3D Printed Homes Project

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex achieved a milestone by completing North America’s first multi-unit residential homes built with 3D printing technology. Located in Leamington, this four-unit accessible and net-zero-ready complex was developed in partnership with The Bridge Youth Resource Centre to provide attainable housing for singles and couples in core housing need. This project, supported by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and other key collaborators like Nidus3D and the University of Windsor, stands as a testament to how emerging technology can address the affordable housing crisis.
Each home was constructed using state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, significantly reducing construction times and potentially cutting costs in the future. In addition to meeting building code standards, these homes incorporate research-backed thermal insulation, making them well-suited for the Canadian climate. As part of a broader vision, this complex marks the first phase of a planned 12-home tiny community designed to be both sustainable and accessible.
This pioneering effort would not have been possible without the dedication and innovation of community partners, funders, and researchers who collaborated to make affordable, high-quality housing a reality. Habitat Windsor-Essex and The Bridge Youth Resource Centre are proud to lead the way in creating meaningful housing solutions that address urgent needs while paving the way for technological advancements in construction.
