Thank you for your interest in joining our Board of Directors

HFHWE welcomes all applicants and is currently prioritizing expressions of interest from individuals with significant experience in one or more of the following:

Legal Acumen - Experience in dealing with legal matters, especially in areas related to real estate and not-for-profit organizations

Fundraising/Resource Development - Experience and proven success in raising funds and ability to dedicate this skill set to supporting Habitat for Humanity

Lived Experience with Housing Insecurity - Personal experience with unstable, unaffordable, or unsafe housing, homelessness, or temporary accommodations.

Responsibilities & Skills

The HFHWE Board of Directors determines policy and monitors operations. Board members are dedicated volunteers who are deeply committed to mobilizing volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

The Board of Directors is entrusted with legal authority for Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the affiliate membership and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. The Board has no direct role in carrying out programs and services. The Board’s role is to establish the organization’s overall strategic direction and provide guidance and support to the Executive Director/CEO.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the work of Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex

  • Willingness to serve on committees

  • Attendance at monthly Board meetings

  • Attendance at the Annual Meeting

  • Support of special events

  • Support of and participation in, fundraising events

  • Support of and participation in construction projects

  • Be aware and abstain from any conflict of interest

  • Enhance relationships with other community groups

Term of Service 

Directors are elected by the membership at the Annual Meeting in May. Directors serve for a three-year term with renewal for up to three terms. Directors may be released at the end of the elected term by resigning, or according to Habitat Windsor-Essex Bylaws.

All potential candidates must be willing to undergo a comprehensive "due diligence" screening process including credentials verification, reference checking, and police record screening
